How to Survive a Pandemic by Michael Greger
Here, Dr. Greger delves into the origin of epidemic and pandemic diseases including HIV, coronavirus, and more worryingly influenza.
How to Survive a Pandemic tackles the origins of viruses and what we can do to stop them- something on the top of everyone's agenda today. It highlights the important role that the domestication of livestock has played in virus incubation and evolution. A condemning review of factory-farming, particularly in terms of chickens, Greger argues that the best way to survive a pandemic is to never have one.
If one is looking for more useful and immediate survival tips, there are some but it is a limited scope and really reinforces what our doctors always tell us when we are sick: stay home, stay hydrated, disinfect. It is not the book for a doomsday prepper as they will not find it very practical.
I still really enjoyed this read as it is eye opening and I think if more people were to read it, we could make tangible changes to prevent our next pandemic. I give this one 4/5 stars and urge people to consider picking it up (or asking for a Sparksnotes summary!)
