The King by J.R. Ward

The war on his doorstep is nothing new to Wrath, King of the vampire race.  The Lessening Society is more active than ever and to complicate matters further, there are those that seek to dethrone him.  What is new is the war in his household.  His wife, Beth, wants a baby.  Can Wrath let go of the past and his fears to give his true love what she wants?

When I first realized that this book would revisit Beth and Wrath's story, I was apprehensive.  After all, how can you expand and what is well established as a perfect mating.  That being said, I noted the seeds of discontent in the paring being sown in books previous.  I adore that Ward took the time to acknowledge that even good, strong relationships have their moments where there might be a breaking point.

The King expanded on the characters of Wrath and Beth, allowing us to get to know them even more and furthering the overarching plot in a very meaningful way.  I am very interested to read the next novel to see how this all plays out.

Of course, in the end we do get our Happily Ever After- but this is a romance novel so what else can we expect!  This is another solid addition to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.
