If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane

When Laurie's 18 year relationship comes to an unexpected end, the last thing she expects is for her ex to immediately shack up with and impregnate a girl from a rival law firm.  Determined to get back at him, Laurie and her devastatingly handsome coworker devise a plan.

This romance has all the elements one expects: loveable characters, heartache, will-they-won't-they tension, plus a sprinkling of humour to top it all off.  McFarlane writes banter particularly well, and it always lands with the reader.

The novel also deals well with some more serious topics- neglect, toxic relationships, fake friends, the poisonous old-boys club workplace, and even race.  I think that these elements help make the novel feel more fleshed and realistic as a whole and certainly give perspective on Laurie and her character.

I would recommend this for readers of: Talia Hibbert, The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, and Dev Sonali.
